Good news for Filipino deaf persons who currently don’t have work!
The Makati City government will again hold a job fair for them on September 18 and 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Makati Public Employment Service Office (PESO) at the New Makati City Hall.
Jobs are open to deaf and mute applicants, male or female, 18 to 35 years old, and at least high school level. Applicants must bring their resumé and/or bio-data with recent picture. Initial screening will be done at the Makati PESO Office.
Last Thursday (September 11), Makati City government held a successful job fair for the deaf and mute at the same PESO Office.
The Lamoiyan Corporation, maker of Hapee Toothpaste, is the main sponsor of the program, which provides opportunities for people with disabilities (PWDs), Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said. The Filipino firm is set to hire 100 deaf and mute applicants. Hapee Toothpaste is the third biggest and the only Filipino made product being used in the country.
“Through these opportunities, we will not only help boost the Person with Disabilities’ self confidence, but also enable them to be self-reliant and productive members of the community,” Binay said in a statement released Wednesday.

Hi! I think the one who wrote the article “Special Job Fair for Filipino Deaf to be held in Makati City” (from Inquirer.net) should watch “Silent Odyssey” so that she will become aware that the word “mute” is not acceptable in the Deaf community—not anymore…and if she is going to have more writing assignments re the Deaf in the future all the more she should join us next Saturday, Sept 20.

Pasensya ka na, talaga lang marami kaming ginawa last year especially with the UN-CRPD because our web designer group helped in adding web accessibility on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) provision of the international law. Anyway I was with the group during the unity rally. I’m not sure if you watched the program at SM Mall of Asia. I was one of those who interpreted on stage.
As of today, we already bought more than 30 tickets. Some of our students are still requesting for more. I requested Noemi for the poster so we can put it on our library wall and in the bulletin board. I hope we can get it by tomorrow.

My name is Maria, I am currently taking up my Phd on International Tourism and I am writing my thesis basically to support workforce sector from deaf community.
